How to insert Superscript 2 in Word/Excel (+Keyboard Shortcut)

This is a very detailed tutorial that suggests different ways to insert or type text or characters (²) by exposing 2 symbols using the Windows keyboard in Word/Excel. You will learn all the simple methods, including the Superscript 2 Alt key combination for Microsoft Word.

However, if you are not satisfied with this quick help, read below where I explain in detail how to get the superscript 2 symbol or any other symbol anywhere on your Mac or Windows PC, such as in MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint.

As you may already know, there are several keyboard double-keys that are compatible with both Windows and Mac. That is, there are characters on the keyboard that are easily accessible as secondary keys. By simply pressing two or more keys at once, you can easily insert these characters into your work. If you z. B. Press Shift + 6, the insertion mark (^) appears.

However, the other characters are not printed as a second key on the keyboard. It makes it harder to hit. One of these symbols is (²).

Typing becomes very difficult for you if you regularly have to insert some of these characters into your work.

But it doesn’t have to be difficult. Especially as you read this step-by-step guide.

To insert a 2-digit superscript text in Word

In the following paragraphs I will show you all the easy ways to type or paste this symbol (²) anywhere on your Windows or Mac PC (for example, in Word or Excel or PowerPoint).

For a quick orientation: Press 00B2, Alt+X on your keyboard to type the symbol 2 with superscript in Microsoft Word. This shortcut only works in Word. You can also press Alt + 0178, which works anywhere in Windows.

However, the methods are explained in detail below without going into further detail.

Method 1: Super Scenario 2 Symbol labels (in letters)

There are several keyboard shortcuts in Windows, some of which only work in Microsoft Word. The key combination Superscript 2 is one of them.

2-digit superscript abbreviation for Microsoft Word – 00B2, Alt+X.

This shortcut only works in Microsoft Word and only under Windows.

Follow the instructions below to use this shortcut:

  • Place the cursor at the desired location.
  • Type 00B2 on the keyboard, then press Alt + X. This converts the code (00B2) into a superscript 2 character where you placed the cursor.

Method 2: Super Scenario 2 Alt Code (Windows)

Superscript 2 (²) Symbol Alt Code 0178 only in Microsoft Windows

Each symbol in Word has a unique code that you can use to insert the symbol into your document. This code is also called the alt code.

Below are the steps for entering this character on the keyboard (using the Alt code shown above):

  • Press the numeric keypad lock key to activate the numeric keypad. Use Fn + NumLk to enable the numeric lock on laptops without a numeric keypad.
  • Hold down the Alt key and enter 0178 using the numeric keypad.
  • After entering the Alt code (e.g. 0178), release the [Alt] key.

As soon as you release the Alt key, you should see the text of the SuperScript 2 (²) icon in your document.

Method 3: Copy and paste 2-character superscript text

My preferred method for pasting characters I can’t type is copy and paste.

With this method, all you have to do is type the character you want to type into Google and copy it from one of the search results. Once you have pasted a symbol into a document, you can copy and paste it again whenever you need to.

Method 4: Using the dialog box for inserting characters

This approach is not as simple as the quick methods. But it’s very simple.

And once you’ve inserted a symbol into a document, you can copy and paste it whenever you need it in your work.

The following section describes the steps for inserting the Super Script 2 signature in Word using the Insert Symbol dialog box.

  • On the Insert tab, click on the Symbols button and select More Symbols ……

With these few clicks the dialog box with symbols appears.

  • On the Symbols tab, in the Font drop-down list, type and select Unedited Text. Then enter 00B2 in the Character Code field. When this code is entered, exponent two is selected.
  • Press to select a character, and then press the Insert key.
  • It is also possible to double click on a symbol to insert it into the document.
  • Click on the Close button.

Use the Insert Symbol dialog box to insert text with the Superscript 2 symbol into Word.
