Bringing Social Networking and Mobile Services
to Enterprise Web 2.0 Applications

BOSTON, ENTERPRISE 2.0 CONFERENCE,  June 24, 2009 — DreamFace Interactive, a leader in Web 2.0 application software, announced availability of DreamFace 2.0 for download today.  The new product was introduced at Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco in April ’09 and has been in private beta for the past month.  The latest version of the company’s Web 2.0 application platform, DreamFace 2.0, provides a comprehensive open source toolset to build, use, and distribute widget-based collaborative and interactive Enterprise 2.0 applications, including Web sites, business analytics dashboards, mashups, enterprise/community private social networks, and enterprise applications.  Major new features in version 2.0 include an enhanced widget platform, a widget-based social networking framework, and integrated mobile services.  Provisions for Content Management and Interactive Advertising have also been added to complete this release.  DreamFace 2.0 can be downloaded from the DreamFace Community website at www.dreamface.org.

DreamFace Widget Platform

DreamFace empowers developers to create Web 2.0 applications from diverse information sources and technologies, inside and outside the enterprise.  The DreamFace Widget Library provides pre-built widgets that may be customized by developers.  Business users can personalize their Web 2.0 applications by combining these widgets, customizing them, and creating interactions between them using the DreamFace Interaction Editor.

DreamFace widgets are easily integrated with existing enterprise infrastructures and can seamlessly embed Ajax, Flex, and any other Web technology that can be displayed in a browser (including other frameworks’ widgets and gadgets).  Content can easily be added with tagging, voting, sharing and categories features.  DreamFace Content can be configured to feed  advertising engines providing targeted and interactive advertising for those wishing to monetize their widgets or widget-based applications. DreamFace widgets or widget-based applications can run anywhere, including on the desktop, on Web sites, on Web platforms, such as Facebook, SalesForce, or MySpace, and on mobile devices, such as iPhones and Android phones.

DreamFace Social Networking Framework

Each DreamFace user has a user profile that ensures authentication and privacy, manages preferences, and enables single sign-on.  The DreamFace platform is open, allowing enterprises to link DreamFace profile management functionalities with existing enterprise identity management systems, such as LDAP, to ensure compliance with established corporate authentication and security policies.

Like consumer social networking platforms, DreamFace enables users to find and link with other users and to define groups of users.  Each user has a “Wall” that lists contacts’ activities and other messages.  Uniquely, the DreamFace platform enables users to group user-defined digital assets, such as documents, photos, videos, links and even widgets or applications, into asset categories and to subscribe to other users’ or groups’ categories allowing user to filter only the information that interests them.

“Web 2.0 technologies, especially social networking technologies, are causing the traditional corporate portal to evolve rapidly and dramatically,” said Olivier Poupeney, co-founder and chief executive officer, DreamFace Interactive.  “DreamFace 2.0 provides enterprises with an open and scalable platform that significantly reduces development cost and time to deployment of ‘built-for-change’ enterprise Web 2.0 applications and that drives network effects in the enterprise to amplify collective intelligence.”

“We chose DreamFace 1.0 for its incomparable Web 2.0 framework,” said Olivier Picciotto, Twinsoft, a partner that uses DreamFace as a front-end to its Convertigo enterprise mashup toolset.  “Now, DreamFace 2.0 brings us social networking, allowing easy interaction between people and information.”

DreamFace Mobile Services

DreamFace 2.0 provides live broadcasting or publishing to mobile devices, providing faster access to critical or dynamically changing information. Users receiving these alerts can interact with their DreamFace widgets and applications directly from their mobile devices. The platform also provides a mobile device micro payment infrastructure.  DreamFace leverages the Sybase 365 mobile messaging platform for SMS, MMS, and micro payments.

 Pricing and Availability

DreamFace 2.0 is available under a dual-license open source model that is based on GPL 3.0.  DreamFace 2.0 Beta 1, including the enhanced widget platform and the new mobile services features, is available for download today.  DreamFace 2.0 Beta 2, including the social networking framework, will be available in September ‘09.  DreamFace community members will be notified on the date the software is available.

The company offers annual technical support subscriptions in silver, gold, and platinum editions, with pricing beginning at $2,500.  Consulting packages and training sessions are also available.  More information about the company’s service and support offerings is available at www.dreamface-interactive.com/services.html.

Cebit 2009 - Enterprise Mashup Panel asks Is the Traditional Corporate Portal still relevant?

Web2.0, Conference, Enterprise Mashups, Portal No Comments »

Olivier Poupeney at Cebit 2009DreamFace Interactive’s CEO, Olivier Poupeney, partcipated in the Enterprise Mashup Panel at Cebit 2009 in Hannover, Germany on March 4th.  The moderator was Micheal Ogrinz, Principal Architect for Global Markets at Bank of America, and author of the new book Mashup Patterns.  Other Mashup experts on the panel were Serena Software - René Bonvanie, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Information Technology and Serena On-Demand, Apatar Inc. - Ludmila Radzevich-Vorobiova, VP of Business Development, JackBe - John Crupi, CTO, and IBM - Mark Heid, Program Director Web 2.0, Information Management Division.

 The topics included :

  • Legal/governance/Testing issues
  • The role of IT in a post-mashup world
  • Different types of mashups and their sources
  • Measuring Mashup ROI

Olivier Poupeney was asked to answer the following question :

With the emergence of mashups, is the traditional corporate portal no longer relevant?

Olivier’s answer follows :

“The evolution of the software industry over the past 20 years shows us that during periods of transition  in technology, when one period is ending and a new one is starting, there is an overlap in solution capabilities  which drives us to a fight. Remember the Mainframe vs C/S applications,  C/S applications vs Web Applications, Web 1.0 vs 2.0, etc.  I think we are in that kind of period now, but we can avoid the fight.

Portals were not designed to build mashups but to give a unified access to all applications that users are authorized to execute. Mashups are not designed to replace Portals but to provide a new generation of agile applications.  If one tries to be the other they will fail.

Ideally, Portals should evolve to run or host mashups which brings the benefits of both and is the proper use of both technologies. With the emergence of web 2.0 applications, especially with social networking which is coming  quickly  to the enterprise, I think we’ll see in the future, a completely different view of  the corporate portal, supported by new solutions.”

DreamFace Interactive to discuss Cheaper & Faster Software-based Business Solutions with Enterprise Mashups at CeBit 2009

Enterprise2.0, Conference, Enterprise Mashups No Comments »

DreamFace Interactive will participate in the Enterprise Mashup Panel at CeBit 2009 in Hanover Germany.  During the panel, DreamFace CEO Olivier Poupeney will discuss enterprise mashups and how they can help create software based business solutions faster and at less cost than the current approach of designing and coding new applications. Some analysts even believe that mashups are the next major application development model.  At DreamFace, we believe that mashups can help businesses to better use their resources, be they existing applications, data or people.  We are very excited to be a part of CeBit 2009 and we are committed to creating cost-effective software that brings agility,  efficiency and that real business value to the enterprise.

Session Title: Cheaper & Faster Software-based Business Solutions with Enterprise Mashups

Date/Time: Wednesday, March 4, 2009 from 11:20am to 12:35pm

If you are planning to be at CeBit, we’d love to meet you and tell you about the great things DreamFace Interactive is planning for 2009.  We will be available after the panel discussion to answer any specific questions or go into more detail about our ideas for helping companies leverage Web 2.0.  We look forward to seeing you in Hanover.

DreamFace announces availability of First Mashup Kit: DreamFace-Fx for Adobe Flex

Web2.0, RIA, Ajax, Release, Flex No Comments »

It’s ready!   Just in case you haven’t seen the press, DreamFace-Fx for Adobe Flex, the first Mashup Kit from DreamFace Interactive was announced on June 24.  It is the first mashup kit to reach developers in a comprehensive roadmap which will extend the DreamFace Open Source Web 2.0 Framework to include a number of complementary technologies.

DreamFace-Fx for Flex provides full bi-directional integration between the DreamFace Framework and Flex applications. It sets Flex components and apps as first-class DataWidgets that can be personalized and shared and which can trigger and react to interactions and business rules like any other DreamFace DataWidget.

DreamFace-Fx has been described as “widget glue for Flex and Ajax” because of it’s unique capability to define widget interactions at both a developer and user levels.  This provides an easy way to connect Ajax and Flex components at a developer level but more importantly allows  power users to take on some of the responsibility of personalization, thus freeing developers for more important tasks that require more technical expertise and satisfying users at the same time.

Olivier Poupeney, DreamFace-Interactive CEO thinks DreamFace-Fx can bring value to both communities, “DreamFace-Fx is the best of both worlds, a win-win for Adobe users and developers and for the DreamFace Interactive Community with Flex providing one of the best RIA experiences on the market today, enhanced by DreamFace’s revolutionary Web 2.0 features, like user-profile driven personalization and user-defined DataWidget Interactions.”

DreamFace-Fx for Adobe Flex is open-source and free to download from our website.  Get DreamFace-Fx

Back from Bangalore - The Great Indian Developer Summit

Web2.0, Developers, Conference No Comments »

1111.jpgWe’re back from the Great Indian Developer Summit in Bangalore India where we spent an extraordinary week.  We’re still  completely under the charm of India, the sites, the food, the people and the tigers at the Bannerghatta Biological Park.  We arrived in Bangalore not really knowing what to expect, except for adventure, and we weren’t disappointed.  The Great Indian Developer Summit exceeded our expectations in terms of the quality of the contacts we made, the companies that attended, the organization and professionalism.  Dilip Thomas and the SaltMarch MEDIA team took very good care of us, showing us Bangalore nightlife and making us feel at home.

Olivier Poupeney, CEO of DreamFace Interactive gave two sessions: “The Difference Between Mashups and Composite Applications” and ”Ajax Security”.  Both sessions were completely full, very interactive and the attendees showed great interest in Ajax and mashups.  There was real excitement from the crowd about these new technologies and they were eager to learn more.   We can highly recommend the Great Indian Developer Summit and after hearing Dilip’s plans for the next edition we feel confident it will only get better.  DreamFace will definitely return to India for a future conference with Saltmarch Media.
